Just because a tool has advanced features doesn't mean the simple features have to be hard to use. It should make easy things trivial and hard things possible.
Few would dispute that, say, Python is more advanced than Basic in almost every way, but you don't see Python programmers dropping back to Basic for 'simpler' tasks. (this analogy assumes the programmer knows both languages proficiently.) Not to badmouth Basic, its okay for some tasks.
Have any of you actually used gimp?
