I love old equipment!!! One neat thing about ltsp is that even if your client is not the speed of the server, apps run at the speed of the server. You can use cheap old laptops (save room and extra wires) for clients and ltsp on a decent server machine and come out ahead money wise, I have 3 19 inch behemoths that I would like to sell, but there is no market. but then, I did not pay anything for them either. You can buy thin monitorless clients for 20 to thirty bucks on ebay, but be careful.. There are a lot of dell desktop machines and lcd monitors that people think are bad, but all you need are a few bucks in parts and a soldering iron to r and r to fix them.

pentium 1's even make great thin clients with just a floppy drive.

Newegg has the 4GB model for $410 shipped. Funny how something announced at $199 ends up selling for $400.

In regards to being available I came by this while surfing...err I mean working. yeah that's it. I was doing key work related research directly impacting company profits.

ANyways. It looks interesting. Even at the higher price point it is sold out till Friday

I wonder what happened to all of those Sony Mini Laptops with the 10" screen or the Apple MacBooks (didn't they make one with a 10" screen). At a lug meeting over 2 years ago I saw a guy with one of those Sony's and he had linux running on that, and I thought that was nice. Why can't you find any of those used for a decent price? (At least under $200) I would be happy with one of those, and DSL installed on it.

I'm pretty sure that MacBooks are all 12". Fujitsu makes some very nice, very linux compatible 10" lifebooks. Or at least they did in the past - it's been quite a while since I looked at them. I'm sure you can find a used fuji on ebay for cheap.

There is a Directron is across town from me.I may go check things out. I have bought used stuff from them and never had a lick of trouble so far.

True dat. I hear Apple is doing their own ultra light. Given Apple's past it will probably sell for $1000. All the Apple Kool Aid drinkers will insist it's priced comparably to other similar products.
