What a nice surprise for all those new Macintosh adopters.

TPM is one of the Apple tries to lock OS X to their hardware, that is why it's in there, however it's not great for copy protection, which is why there are pirated/cracked/hacked versions of OS X out there that can be install on any x86 based machine.

But yeah, I'm not buying any superior Apple products with Intel inside
Nor any motherboard with it.

This is the best part of the article right here:

1. Purchase a PowerPc Mac before it disappears from the market, knowing that at least two or three years will pass before the migration is completed and all the Mac software is available in Universal Binary?

2. Swallow the toad and hope that Apple only wants to use the TPM chip as an copy prevention system in order to block installation of Mac OSX on non-Apple computers?

3. Migrate to Linux - maybe a version specifically designed for Apple Intel computers in which there is no software that calls the TPM chip - and in which one can deactivate via BIOS or EFI the TPM chip?

4. Look for non-Apple PCs without a TPM chip and install Linux on it? And how do we know which PCs don't have separate TPM chips or (worse) TPM modules integrated in the processor?

I checked out some of the Mac laptops at the Apple store in Braintree. They're really nice machines but this DRM sh|t and a hefty price tag ($2000-$3000) will definitely keep me away. Our buddy Paul Cooper had a really sweet ultra portable Sony. If I had the cash that's probably what I would buy.

That, but also if I'm buying a computer I'm sticking to what I know, the good old BIOS, I'm not into this new EFI crap, why fix what ain't broken!

How are the Sony laptops and Linux support? Thinkpads are great with Linux right?

Yeah Thinkpads are No. 1 for Linux support. I really like that Ultraportable DL.TV showed on episode 48. Im not going to be gaming, I don't need a disc drive, and linux doesn't require too much power and that seems lite and very mobile (the battery life would probly be pretty good too). I just don't have the cash now and I don't know how well the Linux support would be on it.

It's gonna be interesting when Intel launches their new microprocessor architecture in the forms of the Conroe, Memron and Woodcrest processors, 'ey maybe we'll finally be able to have 10 hours of battery life!

Supposedly the new Stinkpads that are coming out shortly are really nice. That's what Miguel said.

Are you talking about the T60 and the X60 with the Intel Core Solo / Duo chips?
