Going to get Slack'ed

Well, I've decided that this weekend I'm going to give Slackware a try.

I'm downloading the two ISOs right now and will test the OS out on my old PI machine. I thought that would be a good place to get my feet wet, trying to learn my way around a Slack system.

Wish me luck!

Hi, Dann.

Well, the install went good, but I had a few problems with configuration of X after that. It took some time for me to find the proper configuration of monitor and resolutions settings to finally get the X launched.

Once X did launch and brought up Gnome, it could not detect my keyboard. This is the old AT (?) style keyboard - you know, the one with the large ended plug with five pins.

My serial port mouse wasn't found either.

So, back to X configure for more tinkering. After some trial and error and moving the mouse to a second serial port (about 20 minutes in all), I got both keyboard and mouse working.

My next hiccup was with connecting to the Internet. The network card was found (I think), but Mozilla could not access the Net.

At this time I had to wrap things up and prepare for my trip out of town. When I get back I'll take another look at things.

I was impressed with Slackware's ability to install onto the the older PC without any problems. But, I'm having my problems with setting up X.org.

I haven't given up yet, though! :D
