Miguel a bit much?

I love your show. Especially the really nice interviews.
I only have one gripe with your recent interview with Miguel from Mono. I think you let him get away with a bit too much!! I mean, the way he carried on about how great Banshee was and how bad all other Linux apps are (it kinda sounded like that), was a bit much. I have been using Amarok, which is an application that is better than any music player I have seen, including iTunes. It is also very good with iPods, and the support for the iPod video is coming along well. But I tried Banshhe as it is configured in FC5 after your interview, to see if the hype was deserved. Gotta say, it sucks in comparison! Wouldn't even detect my iPod. And there is really no help available on line.
Maybe it will one day be great. Maybe Miguel is a visionary telling us about the shape of things to come, and I love that they are doing so much to promote Linux, but come on. Don't let him get away with the salesman stuff ....

Yeah I've been sort of thinking the same thing, and doesn't the LGPL, the license that GStreamer uses, allow for proprietary linking?
Banshee is cool and all, I use it personally on FC5 so I do know what I'm talking about, but come on, it's not like an app that's been in development for 1½ years, even when still a little buggy, is all suddenly vastly superior to something that's been cooking for years (Read: amarok).
Also, I looked at some mailinglist postings by some GNOME zealots the other day (I call 'em GNOMOs sometimes because I think their arguments about Qt/KDE is a often a bunch of bull crap when it comes to licensing), not referring to Miguel de Icaza here so don't send me hatemail, and even more than FIVE AND A HALF f****** years after
Trolltech released Qt and a shitload of other tools under the GPL, they are still arguing that Qt is still non-free software, come on when even Richard Stallman is happy about it, it's at the point where I call any arguments on it bull shit.

Well AFAIK I think you have to be a salesman of your technology otherwise not many will do it for you. Again I dont think he plugged banshee that much, I mean banshee is a great topic because is not just a piece of software it represent a legal matter of putting mp3 on linux, and also a mono example technology. I also use amarok and I don't use banshee and I dont think I will. But I think is great that miguel is pushing this his technology so enthusiastically and I wish more people could have such a channel.

Miguel as well as other guests are doing us a favor by coming on. We're not paying them. I don't have a problem if they want talk up their product for a little bit. He genuinely believes in his applications and those of his teammates. No one is forcing any of us to use a particular application or toolkit. Try them out and make up your mind. That's what so cool about linux. You have choice on almost every level. The next time we have Miguel on we'll make sure he doesn't get too excited otherwise we'll have Allan put him in his place

When did Amarok get a good name? Maybe when they get rid of some of the bugs and crashing, it's not bad as a concept.
