We've heard quite frequently in the past that Apple will not support nor sell Windows on their intel Macs. But a recent addition to their add campaigne has me questioning this stance. I believe you can view the current video over on their website and I have seen it on tv. The Apple guys is positing that now you can run Windows and all the Windows apps on the Mac.

They are referring to Bootcamp, obviously which will be integrated into Leopard. At first I thought this commercial was a bit deceptive in that sure you can do this, but the capability for doing this is beta and not supported. The only disclaimer is that you have to puchase a copy of Windows XP.

Now apple is a company that espouses ease of use and integration. The goal is to extrapolate the technical hurldes from the user experience. The appeal is to the general population. These commercials target the general population. I find it a tough bill to swallow that Apple would be advocating the fact that you can run Windows XP yet expect general users to install the operating system, let alone go through the process of multi-booting and partitioning during the Windows install.

Could we be seeing the initial beginnings of Apple selling dualboot systems?

Well, for me it's a lot more fun to talk about wild speculation, a la Dvorak.

It seems like I heard someone mention (LQ Podcast?) that Apple was no longer allowing others to see the code for the Intel kernel, and someone suggested that they might be trying to hide their next big move with Leopard. Apple's pretty damned secretive, which is impressive, so it's conceivable that this could be part of the reason. I'm probably deviating from what I heard, but someone threw out the idea that maybe they're doing something in the kernel to allow people to run Windows programs straight from OS X. Is this something like what Win4Lin does?

Anyhow, talking about things like that gives me the same guilty pleasure that you get from reading trashy tabloids.
