CentOS/GRUB Help

Post by jamathis » Thu Jun 22, 2006 12:36 am

OK, here is the situation. For my Network Systems Management as well as a Network Development class, we have to use removable harddrives (the typical IDE HDs in an enclosure inserted and removed with a key). The NSM class requires MS Server on a partition and for my part in the project for the Network Development class, I need Linux. I'm the Linux guy and will be using CentOS to configure a mail server and ftp server. I must also add that the enclosures are supposed to convert the IDE drive to make it usable in the PCs in the lab that are SATA. The installation of both OSs went perfectly, but when I rebooted, GRUB starts, but then freezes. It does absolutely nothing but display "loading GRUB stage2". I'm not sure if it's a problem with the IDE to SATA conversion or if GRUB is corrupted somehow. Any suggestions? If it comes down to it, I'll just reinstall CentOS and see if that helps, but I'd rather not have to go that route unless it's a last resort.

No takers huh? The strangest thing though, I installed White Box and erased the CentOS install, now it boots with no problem.
