I was just looking at FLOSS Weekly's TWiT page, and I noticed Leo posted an Ogg Vorbis file but I don't see a feed for it. Am I blind, or is there only a feed for the MP3?

Not at all your eye-sight is very good, there is indeed no OGG feed, Leo says all the time that he likes open standardized formats and OGG Vorbis is good, but he ignores it all the time, because "no one" wants it. Plus you have to remember his affairs with Uncle Steve.

I think Leo underestimates the size of his Linux/OSS audience. He always talks of Linux as this "other" operating system, that only geeks use. From all of the reports I've read in the past year or so, Linux has more desktop market share than Mac OS X does, and has around 30% of the server market. I don't think Leo quite realizes that. By treating the Ogg files like this, he's just turning off more and more of the people he's trying to target with FLOSS Weekly.

Not to mention no new FLOSS in almost a month. On a side note, their new design is pretty nice.

Leo often mentions linux which is great but I don't think he really gets it. After mac os which he adores and his necessary Windows useage for his shows I don't think he has much consideration for linux. His answers to linux questions are often outdated.
He has to be mainstream, I suppose, but I was hoping more from 'FLOSS Weekly'.

I like Leo, he definitely has good intentions but is definitely a Mac head even though he doesn't like to admit it. I remember when I talked to him he said something to the effect "I use whatever works best for the situation". I agree he seems a little behind the curve when it comes to linux. Honestly though the guy is super busy. Supposedly there's 2 episodes of FLOSS Weekly waiting to get edited and released. I believe Leo does the editing and is way behind. I think we should request nicely that they add an OGG feed. Not hard to do.

I just listened to FLOSS Weekly for the first time, it isn't that bad. Do the older shows even have an OGG file or am I blind? And what kind of show doesn't release a show in almost a month?! That's heresy! If he were to take as much pride in it as we do with LaGER....er...... (I slept in too late last episode and the 2 before I was away, I will most definitely try to make this weeks one.)

I think leo is all about iTunes and iTunes doesnt read the ogg file-type. So I guess he didnt want to encapsulate it.

However, this is something I have notice, most of this community is a 'passive hater' whcih complain, but don't really do much about it. I think there is a commenting section on each of the shows, I would like to see at least half of the people that post to this threat to also post to the Show.

I made a post pushing the complain but if I dont get any other supporting comment this might just slip away just like other pro-linux comments in the past because there is simply no uprising.

I listen to over 40 podcasts. I listen on Windows at work because that's the only time I have. I got the OGG plugin for WMP and decided to convert my feeds to use as many OGG feeds as possible.

So out of OVER 40 PODCASTS, many of which are tech podcasts, how many had an OGG feed?

Linux Australia Update

Completely pissed me off. Very, very few are actually willing to put their money where their mouth is. Plenty talk about OGG, but few do it. A couple have OGG available with no OGG feed.

However I dont see many people asking for oggs. The issue is that Linux users are not necesarily ogg fans. Specially since one of the very first things is getting the mp3 feed.

That said there are plenty of podcast that deliver in Ogg, Linux Logs, LinuxQuestion Podcast, Lugradio, tllts, jakattak, distrowatch, novell open audio, the linux action show, bsdtalk, linuxreality etc.

Diggnation is not on ogg but is on theora I think (is a vidcast), but maybe they could supply ogg if people ask for it.

Gomer_X's point is well-taken. I do need to promote the LR ogg more. I like how you guys add the extra content to your oggs -- honestly, that is truly the main reason why I bought the iaudio 5 after hearing Pat's review of it last year. I wanted to hear your extra content. That is a great idea.

There is a link to the LR ogg feed in the right column on the LR homepage, but it's not very clear. I need to make it easier to find. I also need to add a direct link to the oggs in each episode show notes, just like the mp3s. So much to do, so little time...

(Besides, goofing around with setting up a Debian email server is so much more fun than editing html, css, and xml.)

OK, to me, it's official, Leo has absolutely no clue about Linux, this guy is just impossibly closed in, in his Mac whoring world. Despite everything Marcel Gagné has shown him, apperantly he still lives 2001 or Microsoft's FUD is working on him, and a lot of other Mac whores.

Linux tricky to set up to dual boot? Oh please, it has been a no brainer for YEARS, and if you go buy SUSE (As the caller suggests) you get a big-ass manual that guides you through every step of the installation, or you can go read a walkthrough online.

Jesus christ, with guys like Leo Laporte still saying it's hard to install Linux, no wonder we only have two or three percent of the market!!
