Has anyone tried out FON (http://www.fon.com) yet? The idea is to build a network of wifi hotspots. You set up your router to share your bandwidth, and in turn, you get to use any other Fon router for free. You can also be a "Bill" and charge people to use your wireless network, but then you don't get to use the other networks for free.

They're giving 802.11g routers for cheap ($5+$8 shipping). I got mine today and hooked it up. The interesting thing is that it's a Linksys router running OpenWRT, so I can log into it and poke around. There's a community on the Fon boards, that is trying to figure out ways to hack the router and not let Fon find out.

I would except it violates my TOS. Many people in the states will have this issue.

Yeah, it probably violates my TOS too, but I'm happy doing that just to screw over my cable company in any way that I can. I'm not a big fan of their absolute monopoly.

OTOH, I have been running an open wireless for a long time, so I don't think they really care that much.
