I was just reading the pre-release Release Summary for Fedora Core 6. In the section on performance improvements I saw:

Yum performance is extensively improved using a new re-implementation of the repository metadata parser in C language.

So at long last Pat won't have anything to complain about with Yum performance. I haven't been running the test releases, so I don't know how much of an improvement this will be.

If anyone is interested, the full report is here. Final release is scheduled for early October, but there have been slips in the past. Looks like some interesting features are coming.

You really need to start taking credit for this NOW, so that when FC6 releases people will know that you single-handedly fixed yum.
Who says TLLTS doesn't have power to change the world?

Looks like I may switch back to Fedora when FC6 comes out. They fixed my beef and FC5 worked really well on my laptop(well, except sloww asssed Yum). If they fixed that, I could REALLY love Fedora.

Can't wait to see if the next version of Ubuntu has an install option to get rid of the sh|t brown color scheme by default. If we get that then we're definitely making progress!

I was looking at that list, a few days ago, as well, and this was what immeaditly caught my attention:

There is a ongoing to effort to the replace the Blue Curve icon set (The window manager theme in GNOME was already replaced by upstream Clearlooks in a earlier release itself which itself is based on the Blue Curve theme engine) with a new one called Echo

After looking at the new theme, Echo, which I think looks really cool, but I still prefer the standard Tango theme, I said out loud: THANK GOODNESS

Huge huge improvement in my opinion, Clearlooks is a really nice theme engine, but the BlueCurve icon kind of ruined it in my opinion.

Now if they'd just take both the BlueCurve widget theme and icons off KDE, it'd be great, plus if the GUI tools for configuration could be usable with the gtk-qt engine, I would probably use Fedora a heck of a lot more than I do right now.

I do know that Red Hat is a GTK/GNOME distro all the way, and I fully respect that, but it'd just be nice to be able to have a decent KDE experience on it, and not be forced to use an ugly-ass theme for the configuration tools to be usable, because last time I tried Fedora with KDE and got the gtk-qt thingy going to have Firefox and GTK apps look more KDEish, all the GUI tools looked totally messed up and you couldn't read the text because the colors would be all convoluted etc. etc.

Echo looks great, and after looking at it for a few munutes, prefer it to the tango theme that Ubuntu uses (the current setup right now). I do like bluecurve, always had, but always thought that it was more of a work theme, and the regular Joe Blow home user needed/wished for something quite different. Perhaps echo is the blend that takes a middle ground. Some flash, but still alot of refined polish.
