Switching from Linux to Windows

I’ve read articles like “Switching for Windows to Linux in five easy steps” or “How changing your operating system can make fun with Linux” or “Why you should give Linux a chance” for five years now but there are always people who say Linux is difficult to learn and Windows has much easier install routines and so on. But what if the first OS you’ve ever used wasn’t MS Dos or Win95 but some kind of Unix-based free system like BSD or Linux?

Some people have no sense of humor! Seriously I have Windows at work and I constantly find myself looking for my virtual desktops! I trying to get them to install Linux on this machine. Almost all the apps I use at work have versions for Linux (or a comparable app).

I trying to get them to install Linux on this machine. Almost all the apps I use at work have versions for Linux (or a comparable app).

I assume they refuse when you ask for that, what is their reason for doing so?

I asked that they install SLED 10.0 on this machine. I'm waiting for an answer. I have a feeling their response will be "we don't have anyone to support it". I'd be willing to be my own support as long as they give me full admin rights and give me access thru the firewall. I do this now with my own machines at home. What's another machine?

Yeah, for 50 bucks a year, they get full support from Novell in case that has any value to them.

Haven't you heard the saying, "it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission"?

Why not use a live CD along with a USB flash (or other) drive to store your settings and any additional packages? That's what I've been doing to tide me over until the official release of MDK 2007. After that, it's getting installed on the second partition on my office desktop.

Our IT dept. wanted me to give up my laptop because we were running short of them and a few other people who travelled needed one. So, before I agreed, I made a deal with IT. Give me a desktop with a hard drive with two partitions. Put XP (or what ever they want) on one and leave the other for me to do with what I'd like. They were desperate for laptops, so the bargain was made.

ROFL, that's just totally awesome, that's the Linspire/RealNetworks way of making the giant behave.

Part of Real's anti-trust settlement with Microsoft here in Europe is that they get a license for the Windows Media stuff.
