Good Mouse?

I hate both my current mouse. It's a logitech, and it has those really crummy small discs they use for glide points. I hate to say it, but I really like my MS intellimouse I use at work. I don't want to give MS my money. Does anyone know of a good mouse with beefy glide points that clocks in at less than $20? All I need/want is 2 buttons and a scroll wheel, really.

I recommend either a logitech trackman wheel

or a kensington si300, which has this very nice grip on the side:

If you have big hands like me you'll like either of them.

Dunno if it's still commonly used, but it used to be the point that the mouse made contact with the surface it does it's thing on.

This is the one we use. It's been about a year.... no problems what so ever and is really comfortable to use. Picked it up at The Source (what used to be Radio Shack) and wasn't that much.... thirty bucks maybe?

I use an Intellimouse at work too. It's maybe 3 years old, and the glide points are almost completely gone. The bottom of the mouse rubs on the desk.

I like the basic Logitech optical mouse. If the glide points wear out after 4 or 5 years, I'll just spend $20 and get a new one. So far I've never worn one out.

There are places you can get new silicone disks to replace glide points, but I've never bothered.

Thinkgeek sells replacement pads.

BTW I am a Logitech whore and all of my mice and trackballs are from them. Awesome stuff, and just (about 3 months or so ago) had to fix a 5 year old mouse's feet with those replacement pads. Make sure to note if they are the oblong ovalish ones or the circular ones. They sell both, as I bought a stockpile of each.

I hate to give Microsoft credit for...well anything, but the designs that they came up with for their Mice and Keyboards are nothing but outstanding. Just go buy some little Tux stickers to stick over the Windows keys if they bother you that much. I need to hunt down and find either the Microsoft or the Logitech Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard. I want to use one for my Powerbook and one for my wifes PC(regular non BT variety) as her keyboard is so damn filthy I don't even want to touch it any more.

Anyway, the Mice are awesome. The scroll wheels just fele right to me. And the mice can take a beating as well. I had one intellimouse for like 5 years before it died. In fact, it was still a PS/2 based mouse. They are that good. Mice and keyboards are usually the things I don't like to cheap out on.

By the way, anyone got a easy way to remap multimedia keys in Linux??

lineak is cool - it's really easy to discover and map your own keys with it. Of course, some crap will never work, like kmix mute - my kmix mute doesn't even work if I toggle the checkbox with my mouse.
