Now I know none of you are fans of the iTunes Store because of DRM AND no Linux support. I am not either, but they are the only store that has some of the things I listen too and I don't want to buy CD's(cuz usually 90 percent of the CD sucks) or Windows Media anything so I buy from iTunes. Over the weekend, I could not connect to the music store for 3 days. I still don't know why the hell this happened and Apple is being it's usual self. I e-mailed support as there is no phone support for the store (WHY??!?!?). Now yesterday, I get home and it's all working well. Today I FINALLY get a response and it was the typical 1st level send the idiot the link on how to resolve these issues by doing the obvious SHIT.....here's the response and MY reply to them:

Dear Joel,

I'm sorry to hear that you can't connect to the iTunes Store. Your experience with the iTunes Store is very important to Apple. I'll do everything I can to help you fix the connection issue quickly.

This article outlines the culprits that can cause a connection issue. Please try these solutions:

http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n300870

While the iTunes Store is unable to provide technical support, I can recommend that you either test your connection to the iTunes Store without the presence of this software or configure your system to allow access to the iTunes Store's address.

I hope one of these solutions helped you resolve the connection issue. In the rare event that these suggestions didn't help, please reply to this email with the following information:

1. Your complete billing address, for security purposes.
2. Whether you use a high-speed Internet connection, like a cable modem or DSL.
3. The name of your Internet Service Provider.
4. The error message iTunes displayed (if any) when you tried to connect.
5. Permission to reset your password, so we can investigate further.

Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this issue. Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Theresa

My Response:

It's working now.

Don't you think I would try this before I e-mailed you? If Apple knew anything about this issue (by the way...this had been going on for at LEAST 3 days!), I just wish that they would BE HONEST! No instead of a honest reply with the REAL problem, I get the form letter with a link to something that I already tried!

Recommendation #1: Invest in phone support for the iTunes Store. That way I can get help ASAP. E-mail support is stupid for something like this.

Recommendation #2: if a user contacts you, it's YOUR problem. Not theirs. As this stuff is posted on the web, it's very easy to find via Google or your own search utility. Quit treating all of your users like they are idiots.

Thank you for NOT helping me.

There....at least you can have a little laugh at Apple.

Here's the reply to my reply:

Dear Joel,

I understand you were having trouble connecting to the iTunes Store due to network issues. I am sorry for any frustration this caused you, but it was only a temporary error. A lot of iTunes users experienced connection issues over the last few days due to problems with their ISP. Many were Time Warner customers.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Apple about improving iTunes. Apple recognizes that no one is better qualified to provide feedback about iTunes than the people who use it.

Please use the iTunes Feedback page to submit your comments:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

Your efforts to share your feedback are very much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Christian

That's nice....would have been nice if you had something on the FSCKING WEB PAGE! Very Happy

I like Linc's response (I e-mailed it to him also...):

Dear Steve Jobs,
I am coming to give you an iPod enema.
Sincerely yours,
Joel

Recommendation #3 - stop using Itunes. Use Magnatune or even Allofmp3.

Hey, it's a superior Apple product! What can I say!

Seriouisly man, you ought to try Magnatune, they may not carry the most well known artists' music, but they have some very good stuff without DRM, good service (I accidently bought three copies of the same album, and I got an email from Magnatune's support asking if I wanted a refund), and in both WAV, MP3, OGG, FLAC and AAC.

Magnatune's nice and all, but there's a ton of stuff on iTunes. Believe me, I support the ones who do it right, but if I want something, I want it and I don't want to buy the whole frackin CD either for one, maybe 2 songs.

Oh and by doing it right, I DON'T mean allofmp3.com

Whats wrong with AllOfMP3? besides the debatable legality they offer much higher quality songs in lots of flavors at a very good price. At $.99 per song with iTunes for crappy quality DRM'ed music I would much rather just get the CD. I'm not just saying that because I hate Apple and DRM and there is no Linux client. I just think AllOfMP3 is much more competitive. Although I like Magnatunes, last time I checked they didn't have that much that I really liked.

What Magnatune needs is very good recommendation engine, where you just tell it what types of music you like and give some examples of "traditional" artists you like and then it would spit out some suggestions.

I don't see the point of using something like AllOfMP3. The artists don't get jack shit for any of those purchases, and the legality is questionable like you said. If you're not going to buy the CD, just grab the album off BitTorrent. Atleast in doing that, you're not funding Russian terrorism.

I'm pretty sure no on has been fuck3d long, hard, and deep by the RIAA for using allofmp3 yet, though.

Yeah, not to mention BitTorrent doesn't have the selection of AllOfMP3 or the quality. ;) Overall I think when I will do from now on is buy any album that the RIAA owns (found via riaaradar.com) through AllOfMP3 and buy the actual album of everyone else (despite the fact that $15-$12 is overpriced most of the time IMHO). That way I don't have to fund the RIAA and I can enjoy music at the same time without all the stupid restrictions.

I've been using eMusic for the last one month and I have to say that I'm really impressed by it. I tried hard to find something on Magnatune but their collection is too small. eMusic has a huge collection of music. It may not have all the well-known artists, but that's ok because I'm at a phase where I want to discover new indie music, rather than listen to what's on the radio or TV. eMusic has over a million songs, they offer DRM-free 192 Kbps MP3s all for 10 bucks a month that lets you download 40 songs. All in all, a great deal.

Or emusic. I have for some time and have been finding some great stuff. Stiff you hear on the radio, probably not, but alot better in many cases.
