Just saw this cool idea from Fedora Unity Project. I was wondering, does anyone know if this "Live-Spin" CD includes an installer?
I could not find any information on the website to that effect.
This would make it equal to the Ubuntu Live CD if it includes the installer, which would be really cool.

As far as I know, these are just LiveCDs, they do not include installers, as that would require a significant amount of testing, and that's not what the Fedora Unity project wanna do.mowestusa wrote:Just saw this cool idea from Fedora Unity Project. The current installer is pretty good, so I'm not sure why they'd duplicate it on a Live CD. Some people would want to test the distro from a live CD then install, but I don't know if there is a lot of demand for that.
The live CDs are built with Kadischi, so it wouldn't be hard to build a live CD with anaconda on it.

The reason why I think it would be a great idea, is because, then Fedora Core could offer a KDE or Gnome or Server live and install CD so that you just have to download one CD to do the install. Fedora Core takes 5 CDs to do an install now, and I thought it would be cool to just pick your desktop and have a ready to go system, that you could add the parts you want to add later.Gomer_X wrote:The current installer is pretty good, so I'm not sure why they'd duplicate it on a Live CD. This would be very similar to an Ubuntu install.
1. Pick Ubuntu for Gnome, Kubuntu for KDE, Xubuntu for XFCE. (Only one CD iso to download)
2. Use EasyUbuntu for multimedia codec installs.
3. Add other packages with apt-get that you hear about or are of interest.
Fedora could have a very similar easy install path with such a Live CD.
1. Pick Fedora Unity "Live-spin" with Gnome, KDE, or Server edition
2. Use Fedora Frog for multimedia codec installs.
3. Add other packages with yum that you hear about or are of interest.
What can I say, I just like the one 700 mb download installs, although I will admit to trying the Slackware 2 CD install too.
As I have pointed out multiple times before, you DO NOT NEED 5 CDs to do a Fedora install. You just need the first CD or even the rescue CD. Pick HTTP or FTP install and point the installer at a mirror. That's it. I haven't done an install from CDs since Core 3. This functionality has actually been available in anaconda since before Ubuntu existed.
