Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum, but long time listener to the show. I would like to know if anyone has tried the GPS system for the Nokia 770.

I think Allan has. He rarely comes around here though. I'll bug him before the next show.

I haven't tried it since I already have a garmin unit. I know that Nokia sells a kit but there is also some gps software in the maemo archive you can download. Then all you'll need is a bluetooth gps receiver.

Very good. I have a garmin usb receiver that I plug into an old thinkpad and that works real well. I still have to have W2K on the pad for the software to work. It is not very portable or at least not as portable as a 770 would be. That is why I am interested in how it would work. If anyone has tried it I would like to know what they thought of it. It would be great if they could compare to a pc oriented gps.

I have a Nokia 770 with a Holux M-1000 Bluetooth GPS reciever. Despite my hate of buying closed-source software I've bitten the bullet and bought Navicore Personal 2007 from eBay (a steal at £60 / $120) which came with a holder for the 770 that attaches to the windscreen (windshield) with one of those suction cup things.

It's due tomorrow (15/08/07) so once I get it tested I'll let you know what it's like. If anyone is interested I can even write an article of how easy (or difficult!) it is to setup!
