So Thursday we were having a discussion here about Linc posting someones email and email address. Linc's attitude towards users. What happens with information that is provided to the show.

That thread is now gone.

What happened?

Speaking for myself here (of course), I think the thread had served whatever purpose it was going to serve. Unless you think something productive can come from a neither-side-budges flame-fest, I hope you'll agree. Whatever was done was done, whatever was said was said, and whatever people thought they were going to think, regardless of what more was said. There was no great crime committed, there was no great unjustice done, and there was no great cover up. At absolute worst it was a tempest in a teapot - let's leave it that way. Please try to keep things in perspective.

I abhor censorship, but I also understand when things get out of hand. There were requests that the thread be removed. So at the risk of any further problems it was. There is another thread going on talking about users and software, perhaps you can recreate your comments there. If not, I apologize.

Well I think it depends on who made the request and what specifically what being asked. If it was the user whose email was blatantly abused by the host of the show, that information should have been removed as it should never have made it's way here.

If it were simply someone wanting their own comments and attitudes covered up deleting the thread was an abuse. Locking the thread would have been the preferred way to handle ending the discussion if it was getting uncomfortable for some. At least then people who contributed still have their views out there and should the topic become an issue again, it is easier to say 'That was discussed over there <and point to the thread>'.

This is just a cheesy way for the hosts of the show to cover up something that they know was wrong to do in the first place and cannot be held accountable for what was said and done.

So much for the beliefs of Freedoms around here.

It's much easier to let go of something that you have a hold of. if the thread were at least there and locked that would be one action that preserves the debate while not eliminating the history.

Unfortunately due to the actions of a moderator here all the discussion has disappeared. This begs the question, what other threads and commentary made here on the forums have been determined to 'have gotten out of hand'. What is the actual policy of what is allowed to be discussed here and what is not? Must everyone agree with the hosts of the show to post here? Are we not allowed to say that we feel a host was wrong or out of line on the show or here in the forums?

During the discussion Linc mentioned several times that 'we' have freedom of speech. Well it seems with the actions taken that he was referring to himself and the hosts, not those who listen.

I don't see what the big deal is. You guys argued for 3 or 4 pages, and eventually it just got out of hand. The mods around here have every right to remove a thread that they feel is getting out of control. Just give it a rest already, or this thread will end up being removed too.

The last time I saw the thread it was just about maxing out at the second page if memory serves. At that time we were going back and forth but it was still a discussion, if a bit heated. I'd love to discuss the point where you feel it got out of hand on the third or forth page. Oh but I cannot because the moderators in their 'wisdom' decided that we did not need that debate going on nor any hint that there was a topic to be debated upon.

So when I see a thread getting out of control I can tell the moderators and they will remove it for me? What are the boundaries of a thread that gets out of control?

Hey, thanks for showing all of good boys and girls how to handle posts getting scrubbed. When you register for a forum, don't you basically agree to let the moderators handle the threads as they see fit? I don't see that many people bitching about the way this forum is handled. Wait, maybe they are complaining and the mods are taking them down as fast as they can.

Really, man just leave it alone..... Or be in the IRC on Wednesday's and debate with the hosts then.

I demand that any offensive behavior and tomfoolery be reenacted in this thread for my amusement.

Yes, it is their forum to run as they wish. However as a member of the forum you do not have to simply accept all the decisions that are made.

And you're right that there are not that many people complaining. Perhaps there are just not any that bother to complain. Perhaps the moderators do take them down, of which we now have evidence that they do at times.

Well I though that here in the forums was a good place to have the discussion as everyone does not need to be present at the same time. Also, during show the hosts are presumably busy talking and interviewing guests. Furthermore, I would hate for there to be some 'technical difficulty' with the IRC that would prevent the server from maintaining everyones connections. And the interruption of multiple discussions in the chat room would hinder a smooth flow for the debate.
