Did someone say "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?" The fact that so many people have chosen to copy, update and improve bashpodder I think is a tribute to... something. :D

Bashpodder isn't fabulous or hi-tech, but it does it's job and it's so simple even I can modify it to meet my needs.

See that all depends on what you call "competition". BashPodder was designed with the idea of having a simple program that ran in a cron job download your podcasts without you ever having to piss with it. Now there are a *lot* of people who have added things to bashpodder to *improve* it, but they take bashpodder past it's original intent. So, that's reall not an improvement per se, but a fork to do something different. Same as the link above.

Personally, I think it's great that people are using bashpodder to do something different - no telling how far it'll go :-) But for as many people who grab and change bashpodder, there are a dozen more who'll still use the original - just like me! :-)
