I buy it. I have seen some of the little fucks try this shit with me and my guild. When I smell something odd going on I lash out on the starter of thy shit, and warn the proposed purveyor of assholedom that its illegal to sell or trade chars and tell the intended victim that this is most likely a scam.
There are smart people and the rest aren't. Although amusing watching the stupid people shoot themselves in the foot, and the Sultans of Asshole get smacked down rather amusingly, it still is a scourge to the once peaceful internet.
