interesting how "compare to Linux" , just compares Red Hat Enterprise Linux to Windows Server, that must of been because Red Hat refused to sign a patent agreement.

Man, it's just sad. Just go looking into the stories they have listed.

Here's the first thing I clicked: Looking into their link The Real Story on Security, and then click on Read the Case Study for Sucos de Valle, and you find this bit of info:

Are these the best stories Microsoft can find? Some company with no trained linux admins is concerned about security—there's not even a mention of a security breach—because they have no trained staff to manage it? If i didn't have trained staff I'd be concerned, too. How well would Windows have lasted without proper staff and patching?

It's just typical Microsoft sales talk. Everyone believes it because the "IT guy" did the research and he knows what he's doing!

Not trying to advertise my own posts but if you listen to the podcasts at https://www.thelinuxlink.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2333 one of the reasons stated for leaving Linux was that if a patch was required for the software then they wouldn't know when (or if) there would be a patch released in the Linux world, whereas they know Microsoft has a set schedule for patch releases and that any security issues will be fixed quickly.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry!

That's the reason I am considering switching back to MS. I know that if there is a security flaw that it will either be patched this coming Tuesday or some following tuesday. I always know it will be a tuesday.

With Linux and FOSS, on the other hand, if a flaw is found I'm not sure whether that patch is going to be released within the next hour or by the end of the day or the following day at the latest. I cannot take that uncertainty. I'd rather wait a week or more and know that I should expect a patch on a Tuesday, exposing my systems, then risk a more immediate remedy at some undisclosed time much closer in the future.

Plus, with FOSS patches typically coming from my disto I have to worry about all my software getting patched; even if my distro is not the developer. For instance, Ubuntu will update OpenOffice, gimp, irssi and all the other software installed through the repositories. With MS, I'm only going to get MS updates. One company, on set of patches. The other way is just to chaotic and confusing for me. I don't want my cable company working on my water pipes. Why should I have my OS dsitributor providing patches of GIMP? That's what adobe is for...

<sarcasm>I thought Best Buy (or some other consumer electronics chain) was the only place to get my software from. If it doesn't come in a box and sit on a shelf then I don't want it!! How can anything of value not come in a box and not be sold in Best Buy?!?! You guys are SOOO out there! </sarcasm>

Time for you to get with the times there Mr. Fuddy-Duddy. You can now purchase the software you want throught he vendor online and just download the setup program for it. God, why go through the waste of traveling to Bestbuy when you can just pop in your credit card and download the software.

And, if you want even more of a bargain, you can get the software even cheaper or for free if you agree not to hog their bandwidth and use bit torrent instead.
