SCO goes bankrupt, and it's all our fault!!!

Saw
this story today.
Apparently SCO filed for bankruptcy last week, and this article says (per McBride, anyway) that Linux is at fault because no one is buying Unix anymore. As one of the comments points out, Sun and IBM seem to be doing OK and still selling Unix. Why can't SCO?

Not to make excuses for SCO... but Darl is right about that one. UNIX sales make up only a very small fraction of SUN's and IBM's revenue. But in SCO's case, other than Unix, what else have they got?

Not having a saleable product is not a good business model. I think I'd diversify.

IIRC they had some Caldera Linux to sell at one point, didn't they?

Red Hat and Novell can sell Linux, why couldn't SCO sell UNIX?
oh, that's right, they spent all that time and money trying to screw linux companies instead of building their operating system to COMPETE.
good riddance.

Their stock is selling .016 a share. The vultures are circling. Is anyone else enjoying this as much as me?

I remember buying a Caldera box set way back in the day. It was an alright distro. I picked it up mainly for the Novell integration but never got anywhere with it. Like SuSE, it succumbed to the far superior Slackware (like most things do).

I am. Their market cap is now down to only $3.4 million. You couldn't even buy a decent house in the Hamptons for that.

So why doesn't someone scoop that shit up and open source their precious IP?

You see my friend, we cannot have our "valuable intellectual property" be victim to the pure evil of the GPL! /Sarcasm

I think everyone that supports Linux should buy 100 shares .... once the Linux community has a controlling interest we could vote in a new board and have them direct the CEO to open source what's left.
Oh hell ..... why stop there .... for giggles we can have the board appoint Linc CEO.

Probably a bad idea, because Linc hates freedom, and he'll just continue the law suits!

As of a few minutes ago, SCO got a reprieve from Nasdaq and won't be delisted from the exchange (yet). It hasn't affected there stock much, which is still around 17 cents.

SCO was originally Caldera. Caldera bought SCO for their Unix technology, renamed the company to SCO, then went to hell in a handbasket. Caldera Linux was not so bad, but never caught on. I ran it around version 3.x.
This is all from memory, so I could be wrong.
