I hope i am not alone on this one, would you guys be able to leave multimedia on linux alone for one week? I don't mean to be insulting , i would like to hear what other applications you like and use on linux which has nothing to do with multimedia.

Yeah, I agree. The multimedia topic gets very state after a while in my opinion. I am not gonna say the guys can't talk about whatever they want on their own show, feel free to do that, however I like variation.
Some discussion on UNIX shells (csh, bash, ksh, zsh), stuff like mutt and stuff like that I would find a lot more interesting, personally.

I would like to see some more technical discussion, myself. Anyone remember the kernel compilation episodes back in early 2005? That was some good stuff. Perhaps do some how-to segments?

The multimedia topics are cool. Who wants to talk about things like the realtime kernel or supercomputing? Desktop Linux is cool, but your going to hit the multimedia topic again and again. Why? Well, I think your listening to the why....TLLTS are Media creators. Of course they love talking about media creating as well as different ways to listen to that said media.

I also happen to think multimedia is what needs the most work. Prime example, I downloaded the IT Crowd and was trying to play it on my laptop and the first player (totem I think) I tried totally screwed up the colors. On vlc, the colors were right, but the video was stuttering all over the place and this is on a Dual Core system with nothing else going on! Finally, mplayer played it perfectly.

I don't know if this is because of the "I hate freedom" ATI drivers which I will agree suck, but they perform better then the open source driver on my Radeon Mobility X1400 in my laptop. PLUS the open source driver currently has no 3d.

Now do ya see how multimedia can continue to show up??

did you happen to download the High Quality AVC/h.264 mp4 files? 700 MB or there about files?
if you did , try the smaller Xvid copies, h.264 is a cpu intensive format.

I download the xvids and watch them on my SD tv through my MythTV box. It looks great.

Consider it considered. I blame Pat and his overly enthusiastic support of MythTV. Not to mention Allan egging him on!

Fair enough. I tend to talk about what I happen to playing around with at the time. Lately it's been MythTV. Let me brush on my kernel dump analysis and I'll do 8 1 hour presentations over the next 2 months.

Make sure those are kernel dump analysis on your MythTV box and report how they relate to video codec processing/conversion.

I'd love to have time to listen regularly again . All you bastiges are lucky to listen to any of the good stuff they have to say!!!

I have enjoyed the multimedia discussion very much. especially that python is being used and how command languages can give you so much power in linux. I am starting to write simple educational games for linux and thinking of leaving freebas behind. There has been real lemonade in those discussions.

I enjoy the multimedia talk, and there's been a lot about MythTV lately with the move to SchedulesDirect and the latest upgrade I had with KnoppMyth went amazingly well.

What does kill me is that they're already changing some of the things I did know, and it's taking me a while to get used to the changes in /etc/fstab and the way hal does it's thing. I do love the command line, so any talks on changes in these sorts of tools would be nice, even if it's just about how old fogies like me don't adapt to this type of change very well.
