Ohio Linux Fest -- Comments -- Who was there?

I wanted to start this thread to just see, who I missed the chance of meeting.

The 2007 Ohio Linux Fest was my first ever Linux or geek or computer related conference. I had a great time. I just wanted to say thanks to the TLLTS team for showing up. I did not get to the pre-party, but I really did appreciate meeting all of you in person. It was wonderful to shake your hands, and speak to you face to face after having listened for the last 2 1/2 years. Thanks for being there and being willing to meet and greet everyone. I just wish you guys could have taken in a few of the talks. My favorite was the last minute Gnome 2.20 presentation. Warren couldn't make it to the conference. So two guys involved with Gnome had less than 12 hours to put something together. They did a great job, and well represented Gnome. I also loved hearing Maddog, but who wouldn't have loved hearing him speak. I also was impressed with the booth for Foresight Linux (which I'm hoping to try), they were cool guys that really had a positive attitude and really did a great job of encouraging their distro. The Fedora people were wonderful too, I went to the BOF for Fedora, and had a great time, that was my second favorite hour that I spent at OLF. My final highlight was meeting Chess and Dave. I love their podcasts, and Dave's that was just posted was just what I would have expected from him after OLF. Both of those guys are great too. Once again thanks so much Linc, Dann, Pat, and Allan for being there. If you don't remember me, I was the guy with full beard and the black "LINUXUNIL" shirt, and I was only there on Saturday until about 5:00pm.

So, who else was there that I missed. I talked to Gomerx for a little bit, and I saw Gorkon, but didn't get to chat.

Anyone else there, and what were your favorite things?

mowestusa glad to hear you enjoyed the Fedora BOF. :D

I had a good time also, even though I really didn't get much off a chance to attend any of the talks, but did enjoy meeting all the folks that came by our booth.

I sure did. Actually, I wondered if it would be worth skipping out on one of the presentations, I had planned to hear, but I'm glad I did. If anything, the BOF gave me the chance to network more than you can do in one of the formal sessions. Ohio Linux Fest is all about the community, and I was impressed at the Fedora Community presence. Having recently just started using Fedora, I have been impressed with the community especially considering its backing from a corporate Linux company like Red Hat. I've enjoyed other Linux distros and their communities, but Fedora is the first corporate backed distro that had a community that I enjoyed as much as other smaller distros. As a desktop, it was easy to install, looks fantastic, and you are big supporters of Free Software.

Anyway, I'm going to stop the Fedora fan boy talk. I'm really glad that your are a member in the forums here, now I know that I can throw out my Fedora questions here too. :D

Another great show. There were definitely more people there than last year.

I was there and definitely liked it. I spoke to some of the organizers on IRC yesterday and they were relatively happy with how it went and said that it's going to be even bigger next year.

I was there. Proof of that is here.

I got to meet mowestusa and schotty for the first time. That was pretty cool.

Also got to talk to shopRatt and Gorkon, Pat, Dann, Allan and Linc and Aaron Newcombe who I met last year. I'm sure I ran into some other people I know from here but didn't get their names. I missed Dave Yates, and didn't get to meet Chess.

I talked to Max Spevak a few minutes just to tell him how much I appreciate Fedora. I talked to Jeremy Garcia briefly without knowing who he was. I talked to Paul Harris at the after-party, who has been on TLLTS before and is this year's LinuxFest chairperson. He's a cool guy and has impressed me since the first time I heard him speak.

The great thing about this show is it's big enough to get some big names, but small enough that I didn't feel like I was bothering anyone if I walked up and talked to them for a while. It seemed like everyone had time to talk.

I took pages and pages of notes and will probably get around to blogging about it in detail later. David Grega's talk on usability was probably my favorite and I liked Catherine Devlin's Intro to Python too. Bradley Kuhn's closing keynote on legal issues was way more interesting than I expected.

I knew you looked really familiar. I tried to get to the Fedora booth to say Hi to people, but it was always so busy. They made a mistake putting Fedora, Gnome and Ubuntu right in the narrowest hallway near the conference room. It was ALWAYS crowded (or maybe that was a good thing).

I did manage to get a Fedora 7 DVD, though.

My first Linux conference and it was a pretty good time. Too bad I missed the kickoff party(I forgot there's a 1 hour time loss going from Middle Tennessee to Middle Ohio. And got out of Work late to boot anyways)

Great Facility. It was good to see the guys, although they looked besieged in that tiny area they had and next year we need to get you guys a megaphone or something for the raffling. I heard Chess And Dave, at the Post party, but with hands full of Pizza and Pop I didn't make my way over to them much to my regret. Had a good chat with the Suse Guys and The Foresight guys as well.

I had a great time with the Fedora folks especially in the BOF, but I have to say the Foresight guys were awesome. They were welcoming, excited about their Distro, and just really positive and upbeat. If they represent their community it must be an awesome group. One guy there is the one who makes their iso images for the project. Also the Foresight guy who did the Gnome 2.20 talk that replaced Warren, was also really cool, and seemed to know his stuff. He was also responsive about wanting to work in the improvements, since he is one of the Gnome developers, from the community at the end of his talk.

I was so impressed, that I have to do some moving around of computers, and then I'm going to install Foresight on one of them, and see how it goes.

I also got the DVD's from the Open Solaris guys, anybody tried their stuff, I'm not too excited to try it, but the Open Solaris does come with Star Office, not Open Office which would almost be reason enough to have it on a machine.

Yes, I also have to admit that this was really cool. Talking to people who have helped me in the TLLTS forums, and getting to meet each other face to face is excellent. I only wish I could have made it for the pre-party or the stayed for the post-party, but I had to drive back home that night.

Thanks Gomer_X for being such an active member of this community, and for praising Fedora which I have grown to love.

I was there, T. Shawn from Akron! I had a great time, and by the way, that is me in the first photo, looking to my left.

Thanks for all you guys did to help out the OLF!

I thought they were going to make some audio and/or video available for download - for those that could not be there?

I checked this link but it doesn't look like anything from this year's show.

http://www.ohiolinux.org/downloads.html

Does anyone know if they will release anything?

Thanks,
Mark

I know the talks were recorded. I understood they'd make them available at some point, but didn't get any details. I'd stay tuned to the web site.
