I recently bought a new Sony Vaio VGN-C250N/B and its a very nice laptop. I just wish Vista wasn't a pile of crap. The sad part about all this besides me still running windows on this laptop is that Sony did not release any drivers for my laptop if I wanted to move back to XP!!! I'm not sure if Vista drivers will work with XP but I don't care anyways. I tried a Ubuntu 7.04 Live Boot in my Vaio and everything seemed to work, even my wifi card. At least I gave Vista a try, now back to my sweet sweet Ubuntu. This laptop should scream with Ubuntu on it and I might be able to run Beryl or Compiz!!!

Ubuntu should run very well on it. I've never had any trouble with it on Vaio's. Right now I'm running Linux Mint 3.0, which is about 95% Ubuntu, on my PCG-R505ECK and it runs very nicely. Previously I had another Vaio, a PCG-V505AX and Fedora ran great on it and then when I switched Ubuntu 6.06 on it, it ran even better. I personally like the Vaios since they are small and light, and make great Linux laptops.

I had a co-worker do a dual boot of Ubuntu on a shiny new Vaio laptop. She was amazed how blazing fast it was compared to Veeesta. She's seriously considering just going the emulator route for the one or two Windows programs she still needs. One person at a time.

I just heard the guys on the "In The Trenches" podcast refer to Vista as "Windows ME Pro." I had to laugh.

Is that podcast active again? I used to listen regularly, but then they started doing like 3 min long "tech tip" type deals after what seemed like several months of missed episodes or single host eps. I can't recall exactly, but they sort of fell off my radar in any event.

I've picked it up again recently.

Kevin Devin left, but George has taken over. When he's alone it doesn't hold my attention, but he usually has a guest. It's still the best sysadmin oriented podcast I've found.

Bummer that Kevin left - George is a wealth of good info, though, both in tech itself as well as "how to build a career." THeir podcasts were always fairly windows-centric which doesn't do me much good either at home or at work, but it was nice to keep up on what was happening in that arena.
