I think Wiki's are great. Very useful when you wish to collaborate with others on a project.

But, what about a personal Wiki you can take along with you, like on a USB key, where you can record your important information with just a simple web browser?

Enter TiddyWiki... a self contained Wiki that only requires you to have a web browser (Firefox and IE supported) with Javascript enabled.

Everything is stored within the html document, so you just have to copy the file to what ever storage media you wish (or on a web server) and have a portable, reuseable Wiki webpage.

Of course, I image the html file could get pretty large if you let it. But if it's for local access, then it really wouldn't matter.

I'm trying it out now, as a personal journal/organizer. So far, so good.

I downloaded it to my USB key and will give it a try.

I use my USB key for this kind of stuff already. Since I work on a computer all day, I have access to my USB drive wherever I go. Currently I have an HTML document for links I stumble across or things from my home browser I want to take with me. I have a text file that I take notes in (blog type stuff). I also have a TODO list with tasks listed for projects I have going on.

It's nice to be able to write stuff down and take it with me rather than putting it on paper or waiting til I get home.

I'll see if this Wiki does the job. I have a feeling it might be more complicated than I need, but I'll give it a shot.

I've only been using it a couple of days, but I think this is a great way to bring all of that stuff you mentioned above together.

The best thing is it's searchable. Not just a single web page, but the entire database you build within it.

What a time saver.... at least for me. Kind of a "record it and forget it" sort of deal.

First thing I did was fix the crappy color scheme. There is a mechanism to edit an internal stylesheet, but I didn't find it useful.

I searched the the HTML file and for every time I found color: #aabbcc, I switch aa with cc. This gives a scheme that's a pleasant blue, rather than the ugly red-brown. If you swap aa with bb, you get green. Switch bb with cc and you get purple ( a bit dark for my tastes).

The instructions say don't hack the styles in the code because it'll get overwritten when you upgrade, but I can live with that.

So far it's pretty interesting.
