GOS flash video

I hope that GOS takes off, I think that the brand of Google can only help linux, even though I know google is a fan of benefitting from open source and not providing open source software, but they have open API's and also they help out the open source community in tons of ways. Is GOS an Ubuntu killer.......hopefully not, since it is based on ubuntu. only time will tell, or do you think it is another fad that will fade out soon?

I played around with the gOS live cd yesterday. I found it quite insane that there was no volume control installed anywhere on the desktop. After a frantic 15 seconds of looking I had to reach for the power button on my blasting distorting speakers.
I checked on the thinkgos.com website and a few people have asked about that and this was the only answer from the community...

You can also install gnome-alsamixer
It offers a little bit of a better gui and better settings management,
it will also show up in Sound and Video,
You could also add it to the bottom shelf for easier access., Just Right click on any Application icon on the bottom shelf, Click on "Add Application", then click on the Audiovideo category on the left, find "gnome-alsamixer" then click on add, it will add it to the bottom shelf.

I got volume control by installing 'alsamixergui'.
It shows up in the 'Sound & Video' menu item.
Not exactly how you should be designing a desktop for the Walmart crowd.

My question has always been, and remains, why the fsck are all these linux distros trying to sell to mouth breathing yokels? Even if that's an inaccurate, generalizing, unkind description, the fact remains that selling linux at wallmart is like selling organic sprout salads at Wendy's - sure some people will buy them, maybe 1/2 of 1%, but they are all going to be people who wish they weren't there in the first place. It is *entirely* the wrong demographic.

I was under the impression that Google has absolutely nothing to do with gOS. They use Google apps, and the "G" makes people think of Google, but it's not a Google OS in any sense. It's just another Linux distro.
The Google brand may help these Wal-mart PCs sell, but I don't think it has much to do with Linux.

Same old stuff, just in a different place. The are just using the old Microsoft shell game upgrade method.

I still don't quite get the Microsoft upgrade comparison though. And what stuff is in which different place?

Microsoft when they do a new version of windows. most of the time the basic functionality stays the same, but they only change where the placement of menu items once were.
Gos does not put me in awe. there is nothing you can not do in gos that you can not do in any other linux. with the mouse and or the keyboard. the way you get there is different.
