After Dann upgraded the forums to phpBB 3.0, the forum logo is the default phpBB logo. While it does look OK, it really ought to be a TLLTS logo, in my opinion that is.

My last attempt to create a board theme was ignored, so I'll do the same and let someone with talent work on it.

Vogateer, I'm sorry for neglecting your theme, it was never my intention. In fact, I would love to work together not only on a logo but a theme for this board. Using the defaults is beyond us!

I do not care about the logo, but it would be nice to know what the rss feed for the messages (not the podcast) is. I must have missed that message or icon on the sight.

I appreciate that Dann. I know the theme wasn't very good in the first place, and you guys are busy enough as it is. I'm thinking I went about making it the wrong way, too, just throwing the thing out there without any input.

I don't know a thing about php, but I imagine someone will soon make an RSS mod for phpbb3, which is what dann is waiting on, I'm sure.
If nobody else wants to have a go at making a TLLTS theme, I'm willing to give it a try, though it appears I'll have to spend a lot of time just relearning things, as the new theming engine is supposed to be a serious departure from the theming engine in phpbb2. It would be nice to make the forum consistent with the tllts.org homepage and use the same logo that rfquerin made. If anyone is to attempt it, perhaps we could get some general ideas on what the TLLTS guys might like to see for the forum.
I guess we all have our own opinions on designs we like. You can't please everyone, but with shared ideas you can at least aim for a majority. I, for one, tend to favor fixed width design, mainly to get a bit of control over line length. (I think you can do it with a fluid layout, too, by setting columns in em lengths, but then it's tough to align things with a fixed length logo.) From what I've read, it's ideal to average about 66 characters a line, and any more than that can affect readability (your eye can't find the next line as easily). Some people like variable width because they believe it makes better use of their monitor real estate, but I end up shrinking the browser window just so I can read better. This becomes annoying when you switch from tab to tab and have to constantly resize the window.
I lean towards the "less is more" philosophy, too. There are so many options and links in phpbb that it's hard to make it look clean and free of clutter, though. That's likely beyond my ability.
Anyone else have opinions? Rounded corners vs. straight edges? Does it need to work well in IE or can you just stick the "too cool for IE" logo at the bottom?
I suppose I like the idea of trying to theme the forum because nobody would be forced to use it. You're never stuck with something you think is worse than the default. Of course, if people just want to see the default theme with the tllts logo up there, that's a lot easier, but where's the fun (and pain) in that?
