If Microsoft can't beat Google they're looking to buy up the competition. Word is Yahoo has been having problems lately and is laying off people. I wonder if Yahoo will become the albatross around Microsoft's neck? It's pretty insane the amount of cash M$ has amassed with their monopoly. Image what Linux could do with 1/4 the amount M$ is willing shell out for Yahoo?

Unfortunately, Zimbra's going to sink on that ship too. I'm already looking for alternatives.

I wonder if this would impact on what technology Yahoo runs. I believe they use a lot of FreeBSD do they not? Would MS migrate their technologies to their own software or would they leave well enough alone? I wonder.

Indeed, it's actually one of the things that the FreeBSD folks are very proud of.

It took them numerous failed attempts to migrate Hotmail from FreeBSD to Windows when they purchased Hotmail back in the day.

HAHAHAHAHA! You must be joking! When has Microsoft ever left well enough alone? Remember ten years ago when everyone was using this great little web browser called Netscape? But, noooooooo! Microsoft had to force IE down the throats of the 95% of users who don't care what OS or browser they used. Then, for those who switched to IE, IE almost single-handedly ruined web browsing for the average user. If it ain't broke, Microsoft will try to fix it - generally by putting their users in peril - kinda like boarding the Titanic but it their case, the SS Microsoft survives and gets bigger and stronger and it's their users who hit the iceberg; stuck using featureless, bloated, software.

I hope Microsoft is successful in acquiring Yahoo. Right now Google pretty much dictates with impunity the rate for web advertising and the % share that content publishers get. Plus Google won't even disclose what that % share is to the publishers. Google needs some viable competition and unfortunately a Microsoft/Yahoo combination is the only thing that could possibly put some pressure on Google. That would be good for all website owners.

Watch out what you say about Apple on public forums! They might sue you and TLLTS for infringing their trade secrets!
