he has decided to get a OLPC

I wonder if he paid for the olpc or was it a promotional machine?

I wonder how he lives with that tiny keyboard. I would probably buy an OLPC today especially if they offer it for sale again because of how solid it is, but I would never been able to touch type on the thing. The keyboard looks smaller than the Asus EeePC. Anyone here use it as their rugged laptop? Since I believe you can load rpms I could install the few apps that I would want for my mobile experience. Then I could ditch my heavy, old, easy to break, batteries dead, laptop. But I'm thinking that the EeePC might be a better fit for me.

I've messed with one, some - the keyboard would take a *lot* of getting used to. It is rubber coated and the keys are all the size of chicklets. It is a lot of fun, though, and my 4 y/o loves it.

While great at resisting liquids and dirt they're not exactly designed for touch typing:

I suppose I could just plug in a USB keyboard when at home base like many EeePC users, and then have this rugged thing with liquid (especially, coffee) proof keyboard for quick notes and look ups of information. These are amazing projects, and I like the humanitarian aspect of the OLPC too.
