This is an interesting read. But there's not much there that we don't already know.
I've been thinking about the problem of Flash for a while now. I think it's one of the biggest problems facing people's freedom to use the web. Video is such a fundamental and growing way of communicating on the web that it's just so dangerous that there is no free format alternative that is up to the task yet. Even Ogg Theora, as Dann has pointed out, may have looming patent problems. One company can not be allowed to control this.
