Story: Linux on the desktop--almost there again?
My first experience with Windows (Win 3.1, I was RISC OS user then and I hated Windows) was with a 386 PC Amstrad MegaPC that wouldn't boot. It was half price because of this and I persuaded my brother-in-law to buy it by telling him I knew exactly what was wrong with it. (I didn't.) Got it going in under an hour though with no manual, discs or even DOS experience.
Never been able to pull the same trick with Linux however. I use Linux as a firewall these days, but I had nothing but trouble (freezes generally after running a few days) trying to get it to run as a server on a PII 350 that had/has no trouble running the "Bloated" Win2K. I even have eMule running as well on the PII server now and it will still run for months without reboots. Linux couldn't even handle being a file server.
Does this sound like bullshit or what?

I've almost given up on "news" articles written by so-called experts in the field.
I'm finding that more and more of these "experts" don't properly research what they're talking about and come away with opinions based on facts they've never experienced themselves.
I've also noticed many of the "news" journals now use tag lines (or head lines) for pure shock value rather than actually state what the articles are about.
Tabloids do this, but at least with them you know what you're in for. At one time I thought there where certain standards "news" sources vowed to uphold... not anymore.
Most (if not all, now) of my computing "news" comes from blogs of individuals I consider credible people. Commercial sources are just that, a bunch of commercials.
To answer you question, Pat (sorry for going off on a tangent), yes, it's complete bullshit.

Yup - in my old bbs/usenet days we used to call these people "trolls".
