I find it sort of funny how they take a dig at Apple, yet the device looks A LOT like a Mac mini!

So it's a piracy device? Geez, while I'm no fan of iTunes, at least the artists are getting paid.

Yeah, say what you will about DRM, but bittorrent, etc, are essentially media ripoff protocols. Is there legitimate content served via BT? Oh, sure, but it's in the minority - a quick perusal yields pirated software, pirated movies, pirated music, pirated games, pirated pr0n, and some linux isos. The number of DMCA cease and desist notices I get weekly has been climbing steadily since the beginning of the year - lotsa people out there stealing, stealing.

Oh, and from a network admin POV, P2P is satan, if for no other reason than it frigging *eats* pipes.

I might disappoint your mindset here but artists do get paid by such means as advertising, performing, commercial use of their songs , besides the RIAA protect big-ass already filthy rich artists.

I expressed my opinion on piracy a few threads back, I do pay for media btw .

In regard to bandwith , Bittorent bandwidth can be controlled via the client unlike the freaking xbox 360 , once my brother is on pro-ev , the internt in the house comes to a startling crawl, my DownStream Connection Speed is 5632 kbps and UpStream Connection Speed is 448 kbps so there should be plenty of bandwidth for more than just a online game.

Back to the main topic. That box would make a sweet MythTV frontend. I see that it has component & HDMI connections (hello HD) as well as an optical audio out.

I'm not defending the RIAA. Are you seriously asserting that bittorrent isn't packed with "stolen" stuff?

The internet itself (or at least the individual SPs) is what is suffering because of P2P. The infrastructure that is currently in place is still largely based on bursty traffic, mainly download with little upload. This isn't a new discussion, but most SPs are not willing to embiggen their infrastructure to pay for P2P traffic - yet.

How does the box itself stack up against some of the other LinMinis out there?

And who do you think pays for that stuff? The record company does. By downloading an album off BitTorrent instead of purchasing it legally, you are harming album sales, and that is all that record companies are interested in. If an album sells poorly, a major label is likely to drop the artist. That means playing smaller shows, possibly signing with an indie label, and ultimately making less money.

Welcome to the real world where workers loose jobs because they no longer needed or there jobs are shipped abroad.
Protecting big ass record labels that support the same system that ships jobs abroad is just counter-productive.

Many artists on indie lables can actually making a living without Mf*****gTf*****gV .

It has been said many times that the recording industry needs to reform, this surely is a direct evidence why..

Christian Einfeldt said a few weeks ago on the show something along the lines of "if everyone is downloading media without paying, is it really piracy ?

I was starting to think this product would never see the light of day. If this thing can play h264 (recorded with the pvr-1212) and vc-1 I might be interested in it as a MythTV frontend.

My question is what sites would be favored for delivering content and at what cost? In addition to that, you still have to contend with bandwidth limitations.

I sent a request to them for a review unit and they said they would send one out as soon as they have a spare one. Awesome. Sounds like it's the real deal.
