My Hardy Review

First off I would like to say that I have always used Ubuntu, and have never had any issues with it. I have always used it on my mythtv server. It was easy to install ubuntu and then apt-get the mythtv packages, then install the firmware for ivtv, and the xc5000 cards. For my Pinnacle 800i card I have to download the latest v4l drivers and compile them, no big deal. Well I figured it was about time to redo my mythtv pc, its been about 2 years. So I back up my lirc conf files that I created for the remote. Now I install mythbuntu's hardy version, and run into problems, the ivtv cards(pvr-500) are detected but my Pinnacle 800i is kinda detected. So I go to compile the v4l drivers. Here is where the problem happens, you can compile them, but because of a fix for another issue, the modules will not load! I put in a bug report only to hear that it will not be fixed! So there is a little work-around, just delete the v4l modules that ubuntu has and compile the new ones. Works great, loads my modules but cx88-alsa will not load or compile! Which I need for sound on my Pinnacle card. I then tried to download kernel 2.6.25 where my card is supported, and compile the kernel myself following Ubuntu's howto(which didnt work)So frustrated at all of this I just popped in my gutsy cd, and redid everything in an hour and now I have a working system, I guess the moral of this story is that I will be waiting to upgrade to the next version. Tired of messing with it at this point.
