One of the school districts near Richmond, VA sell some old Apple laptops for $50. It turned into total chaos:

Reminds me of making the mistake of shopping the day after Thanksgiving a few years back. Some people turn into total assholes whenever some thing free or near free is involved.

Let's be fair - these people were all assholes to begin with. Turning a Macintosh sale into a Who concert is just plain insane. I understand when there's a fire (or whatever) and people trample/squash each other to get to freedom - there's probably some survival instinct at work. Trampling ladies with infants to get a bargain on a POS Macintosh is just evidence that many (if not most) people are completely fucked.

This "me first" syndrome is appalling. Common courtesy and respect for another person just seems so hard to find these days.
It's a sad situation.

get some volunteers to man the auction for the school and make some money.
my daughters school does it all the time and even if we only make 400 or 500 it is money we didn't have before. all workers are volunteers and we use the schools cafeteria or meeting hall. even if they sold the laptops like at 50.00 a shot they still make money.
doesn't make sense to me.
I want to get in these school districts these days - first you got one just giving 600+ laptops to students and now just plain giving them away.
I'm living in the wrong place.
rephrase my posting

Reading my posting again it doesn't really seem clear to what I was saying. it sort of seems like I was implying they were giving them away. I should of said they would of made more than 50.00 bucks a laptop if they had an auction and they could of started the bidding at like 40.00 or 50.00 bucks a laptop.
sorry for not being clear.
