The Linux version has a 20 gig drive, the XP version has a 12 gig drive. So the 8 gig difference is covering the cost of the XP with all things being equal?

Trying to get a ballpark figure on what XP is costing them buy comparing drive sizes and prices.

I looked around and could not find prices for both a 20 gig and a 12 gig solid state drive. However E-Bay is selling 64 gig solid state drives between $600 and over $1000. And a Transcend 32 GB solid state drive is selling between $175 and $208 Buy it now. Yet a site called the storage forum says that the Samsung 32 GB solid state drive will be $350 on volume, the same ones selling for $479 on e-Bay.

Well, even the pricing of them the same but making the Linux version have a bigger SSD was almost certainly a way not to piss off Ballmer. Asus could say to MS, look at least we didn't make the Linux machine cheaper. But Asus notched their kissing of MS's ass up in Australia where they are actually charging about $50 more for the Linux model.

It may $16.00 more at Buy.com (which is asinine in my opinion) but I find it interesting that they label it as almost out of stock and you better order fast. I don't see that on the Windows one.
