Interesting, I always like the concept of the iMac. In fact I own two Imacs, one with Panther and the other one with Tiger. I think the EMonitor will be another successful item from Asus. Run Ubuntu on this with the OSX GUI desktop and it will be a a iMac killer.....lol

We have a g3 imac, but we am running hardy ubuntu on it. We use it like a giant chumby. I have one g3 tower still running mac os/x but I am going to pull the drive and replace it to install linux. I am leaning towards slackware since it is lean and mean.

I had Ubuntu 7.04 on the G3 Imac, I couldn't install 8.04 Hardy, it stopped at the install and would not go further, I tried 7.10 and ended up at busy box. I tried Yellow Dog and had issues with that too. Not a lot of time to devote to the project. (I used the alternate installer for PPC for all Ubuntu tries)

I reinstalled 7.04 and still could not get flash player to work on it (like to watch "youtube" and news sites with video) . From what I read on the Ubuntu forums, Linux with flash player capabilities on a PPC is one of the sticking issues. Flash works fine on a Linux PC however.

I installed Tiger OSX on it for now.

(I'm still trying to get wireless working on my Compaq HP 762NR laptop with Hardy/Vista dual boot...did everything the forums said to do...hours and days later still can't get it to work..I would like to just delete Vista off of it if I can get the wireless to work....but thats another story...another subject...another week of troubleshooting....lol)

I did a network install with the minimal cd. Hardy does not do a good job of detecting the video card. The other distros might be having the same issue. When i did the reboot, the machine came up with a blank screen, I had to go into terminal 1 to see what was going on. linux actually loaded fine except for the video. I had to dl two kernel modules mach64 and drm (thank god someone had already compiled them). did a depmod -a. Then I had to sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati-dbg. Last of all I had to manually set the freqs and res in xorg.conf. I would not wish what I had to do on a new user (i consider myself a novice). Looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.conf and a lot of google research helped. I still want to get compiz and flash/gnash to work. I have not spent time doing that yet though. It is not a priority yet.
