Vista HP Compaq Ft 762NR Laptop at Best Buy on sale for $399 no rebates. I bought the same laptop at Staples for $399 a month or so ago. It is a good candidate for Ubuntu 8.04 as I installed it on it as a dual boot. It has the Atheros 5007 wireless device which can be easily made to work with a simple command line or two. So for a little more for the price of one Eee PC you get 160 GB hard drive, 1 GB Ram and dual core Chip with DVD playback and record.

That has a 15.4" screen, its going be quite big. I personally like 13.3" and smaller screens on laptops.
Those big 17" ones make me laugh, imagine opening that up on the tube/subway in rush hour

I've seen "laptop" (More like trucktops) with 21" screens, those are ginormous!

You have young eyes, . For me a 15.4" is about as small as I'd want to go and still be able to stare at it for a while.

That's a great deal on a laptop. These cheap sale laptops make great Linux machines. The only downside is M$ got paid for Vista. But maybe you could get Compaq to refund the money and return the sticker. I should have done that with my HP laptop.

I just like small things, my desktop monitor though its 17" . It doubles up as a tv for watching films, as i don;t have a real tv.

Those HD widescreens are something different, my brother has a 37" Samsung, its a huge tv, you should of seen the size of the box it came in.

Just a update, the same model is on sale again at Best Buy and Staples this week for $399. Ubuntu 8.04 can be installed on it..including wireless.
