me and troels have been battling it out , I personally think people buy them for their style, similar to Sony computer hardware.

If that was the case, and people actually bought a Mac with the design as the primary reason, I think you'd hear a lot of people say "I bought a Mac and installed Windows XP/Vista on it".

We were able to get some dirt cheap for doing a project. Now they are more valuable for spare parts. We have pretty much junked our g3's.

Well, I bought a very old and used Mac because I wanted to try Linux on PPC, just for fun. But that probably isn't a common response among Apple users.

Most Apple fans like Macs for a few simple reasons. They are secure, stable, and easy to use. Is this really news to anyone? I mean, I prefer Linux, but it isn't difficult to see why people like Macs.

Most people buy a Mac because it's just one more thing that they can point to that proves that they are special. But we all knew that already.

I bought a used iMac G3 for the form factor. We wanted something small to fit on the counter in our kitchen. I wouldn't have gotten away with drilling holes in our brand new counter to hide a desktop and the ventilation would suck in the cabinet underneath. I have Etch installed on it. It wasn't for OSX. The last thing we needed was another GUI to learn the intricacies of. My wife just wanted something to check email and lookup recipes with.

Well I got a free G3 ...B & W Mac from my brother in law. it had OS9 and he could not get on the internet on it. I threw Feisty 7.04 on it and got on the internet, but the only drawback it had no flash (can't watch video sites You Tube..etc), for some reason flash was not supported on Ubuntu for PPC.
I bought two G3 IMacs, one for $30 the other for $19 (no hard drive)and ended up throwing Tiger OSX on it. I am impressed, but not overwhelmed. OSX is pretty good, I could see how it could be conceived as "cool". Yet I could not help but notice OSX reminded me of some kind of Linux distro. I do really like the "all in one" IMac concept where the monitor and computer are combined.
If anyone was interested in getting a Mac, I would suggest getting a IMac with Tiger OS and at least 512 MB ram. They can be found on E-bay for $100 to $150. Relatively inexpensive and "cool".

It's not just Ubuntu.
Only OS X has the flash plugin for PPC.
