You know it's getting bad when even Amazon can't tell all the flavors of the Eee PC apart -- a listing for an "Eee PC 900" with 16GB of flash and an Atom processor just went live on the etailer's site with a pre-order price of $399. Those are actually the specs and tasty price of the long-awaited Eee 901, so we're going to say that ASUS's endless stream of minor new Eee models has everyone confused, and that the 901 looks like it's ready to drop -- is the is the Eee that'll finally make you take the plunge?
It looks like MSI should have stuck to their $399 promised price instead of upping it to $499

With a $399 price on the eee 901 Asus is now putting the screws to MSI and other netbook competitors. Good, let's keep getting these prices down.

That's a little strange since NewEgg is pricing it at $600 (and only lists the XP version, no Linux: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834220355). And they have it in stock.

I doubt that the price difference is all MS-tax or Amazon-vs.-NewEgg -- so, while I'd be delighted if a 901 could be had for $399, I'm a little skeptical that the Amazon machine really is a 901 until they actually say that it is.
