The only thing I see that's wrong with it, is that it's probably close to the least effective and least efficient way of trying to increase Linux usage. Also, as I've said before I don't really give a damn if Linux ever becomes a huge desktop market. I'll be happy a a pig in sh*t when Linux on the desktop hits 10% worldwide. That's enough to ensure that hardware manufacturers can't ignore it. It's probably a waste of time to go after small town folk. The more geeky and motivated tinkerers are going to play the biggest part in getting the Linux Desktop to critical mass faster. But if some folk want to spend their time going from town to town evangelizing Linux it's fine with me. I hope they have fun.

What a shortsighted opinion. The greater the adoption of Linux, the more all of us benefit from increased support from both hardware and software companies. And what about freedom? There are still countless people living in MS and Apple serfdom because they don't even realize there is another option.

My feeling is that I want Linux to succeed. But it's less important to not important at all to me if Linux strives to succeed by becoming something that is not true to the FOSS community. Mark Shuttleworth has recently been making the rounds giving interviews where he states that he thinks Linux needs to strive to be like Mac OS. It's enough to make me want to puke. I'll take a true to FOSS Linux desktop market of 10% over a mutated destroyed sacrifice everything to appeal to the lowest common denominator to get 90% world market share any day. So it's actually precisely because I care about freedom that I feel this way. I don't think it's shortsighted. But you what they say about opinions...
