It's hard to measure how much of an impact Linux is having on the nascent market. But anecdotally, the free operating system appears to be making progress.
If these are systems preinstalled with Linux and the companies selling them bother to keep track of how many they sell, how is it "hard to measure?"

I admit it's a complicated algorithm, but with modern hardware it's possible to figure this out. :)

4% that seems a bit low considering how many people wipe out laptops for linux. As most people here were are above 90% on laptops and desktops.
