That is interesting, i don;t think it will make it any faster though, I believe xul is the bloated bit .
Troels will back me up on this but a less you have a beefy machine, firefox runs like a snail.

I think the port to Qt will make the browser a little bit faster. I have used GNU/Linux 24/7 for four entire years now, so I've used both GTK and Qt apps A LOT. My overall experience is that Qt apps are generally faster and more responsive than GTK apps. I am writing this on my laptop, which runs Fedora 9 with GNOME (KDE 4.x is not for me yet). Unfortunately, I hate most of the GNOME apps, so I have installed KDE 3 apps like Amarok, Kaffeine and digiKam in place of Rhythmbox, Totem and F-Spot/gThumb. Obviously, these take a little longer to load than GTK apps, because their libraries aren't loaded with the desktop itself. But once these apps are running, they are a lot more responsive than GTK apps, even running under GNOME. My laptop has a shit slow 4200 RPM hard drive, which makes me notice every slight increase in performance.

On my desktop machine it slows me entire desktop down to such a degree that just switching virtual desktops is ass slow. And forget about actually browsing more than one web page at once.

During a bsdtalk interview with OpenBSD developer Bob Beck, Will asked him about his favorite text edtior and he said he was "slowly switching to mg, because Emacs is a bloated pig, well Emacs has always been a bloated pig", that's pretty much how I feel about Firefox.

What about an ETK version for E17?
