Looking over the specs of this phone I see they have Windows Media Player 11 running on it. I'd be curious to find out how they got it running on the Linux platform. Obviously they've licensed it with Microsoft. Did they get the source code from M$ or are they running some kind of emulation layer or API (WINE)?

where did you see that, because I must have missed it.
I wonder if they mean support for Windows Media Player 11 format with respect to drm'ed wmv and wma files.

The U9 supports Microsoft Windows Media Player 11, as well as audio formats including Windows WMAv10 plus Janus DRM, MP3, AAC, AAC+, and AAC+ enhanced, says the company.
But, you may be right that they meant to say that it just supports the formats.

That could also mean that it is supported by Windows Media Player 11, in that you can sync the device with the media player and manage your content with it. They are explicit then in saying it handles windows media v10 content.

With the store credit I had after returning the Huawei modem I ordered this phone for my wife. It just shipped so I should have it by the end of the week. The caveat to my wife is that she lets me "break it in" for a couple of days first. I'll post a review on my blog and talk about it on upcoming TLLTS episode.
