I've seen the list that Dann keeps up, but I would like to hear from this community. With the departure of LugRadio, I happily replaced them with the excellent Linux Outlaws. Now with the departure of the Linux Action Show to YouTube, what show would you pick, there are a number of Linux podcasts that I have not gotten into yet. Here is my current list:

TLLTS (of course)
Lottalinuxlinks (Dave RULES)
Linux Outlaws (Awesome Job Guys)
BSDTalk (Excellent and Professional)
Fedora Reloaded (When it gets produced)


After looking at Dann's list, it sure seems like a number should be put to the graveyard. When was the last Linuxquestions or JAK attack or Open Voices or IBM show?

Also I would love to hear of non-linux podcasts that this community really enjoy. After all the above list does a pretty good job keeping me informed about Linux, so maybe it is time to replace LAS with a non-linux podcast to learn something new. I have listened to the following which are pretty good in the past:

Writers on Writing (interviews kind of repeat many of the same topics with much the same advise)
History According to Bob (this guy is an animal and puts out like one or two a day at times)

Your Picks?

I love bsdtalk. Will Backman does a fantastic job with his podcast, and the interviews are always entertaining and filled with informative content. I only wish that his episodes were much longer and more frequent, but he is rather busy with work as he mentions in his podcast. Ah well, keeps me longing for more, I guess.

Yes, I forgot to mention, Sourcetrunk which is always a good listen. I should have mentioned it in my original list because it always finds a place on my player. Also "work safe" would be a good thing for me too.

I couldn't agree more, my sentiment exactly. In fact, I find some older interviews so great that I often re-listen to them.

CNet's "Buzz Out Loud" is a good overall tech podcast. It's daily and about 30 to 40 minutes. Great crew and they actually know what Linux is.

I really enjoyed Mur Lafferty's "I Should be Writing," which is about fiction writing, mostly SciFi. She's good, but I dropped it because she screws with her feed every month or 2 and I end up downloading all 150 episodes again. It's fixable, but I didn't bother.

I tried Dan Carlin's Hardcore history mentioned above. It's good but way too long (stick with Bob).

"GeekNights with Rym + Scott" is one of my favorites. They're 2 younger dudes from New York who discuss comics, Anime, games, technology and other stuff. I'm not into most of the subjects they talk about, but they're really intelligent and entertaining.

Retrobits is about old technology (like Apple II and CP/M and stuff). Doesn't come out too often.

MeanDawg Movie reviews is hilarious. They'll choose a topic (movies about food, movies with dogs, movies where the main character is a criminal) and each guy gives his top 5 picks. What makes it work is they know a lot but they're not full of themselves, and they're really funny together.

That covers my top favorites these days. I'm probably subscribed to another 25 or so.

Retrobits is another good one if you're into retro computing, but as Gomer_X mentioned, the releases are rather sparse. I also listen to the RetroMacCast which is along the lines of Retrobits, but more geared for retro Apple gear (not just Macs). Still, were I to compare these two, I would definitely put Retrobits ahead of RMC.

Thanks for these latest ideas. I appreciate some of the other tech and geek ones listed, and I will definately try Retrobits. I also like non tech ones that have been mentioned. I believe I will broaden my listening interests.

Was looking for something already - they had become a bit boring as it was.
I think that BSDTalk is very good - I think the controversial interview with Richard Stallman was done with great respect, for instance.
I usually pick up audiobooks at Podiobooks.com. I have listened to Black Jack Justice many times.

I used to love listening to sourcetrunk but when they took a hiatus I deleted them from my list. Are they casting again?

yes. not as often as he used to, but it's still going.
