interesting read. I like Gentoo and I might give it another try this weekend, I had no clue I could make my own gentoo packages easily. This could be my key to breaking the line between waiting for a package and trying to interact the package manager and source packages. It has almost as many packages as my Kanotix and they are more up-to-date. I think the initial install may be a little painful but I don't think it will be that bad...I can surf all the cool sites using lynx while it compiles

Make sure you don't plan on doing anything else then! :)

I might use VidaLinux so it might not take long to install (VidaLinux is basically a precompiled gentoo). If I have other things to do (and places to go) I might just install gentoo and surf around with lynx while it installs. I heard Gentoo 2005.1 has a graphical installer now but I can't seem to find it...maybe I have to download it though portage....
