Ubuntu Bug posting

Post by blueintray » Thu Dec 04, 2008 9:00 am

I ran into a bug that stopped certain applications opening under Ubuntu. A real show stopper that had me stuck for a while. I then found I wasn't alone: http://code.google.com/p/compcache/issues/detail?id=12 and that it was configuration issue regarding compcache.

On the compcache bug forum I got help with resolving the problem, i.e. adding vmalloc=512M [25% of RAM] to the boot kernel line. I didn't have this problem before upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10. So, I presume something changed when I upgraded from Gutsy? Before all the chatter on the compcache forum, I posted on Ubuntu's Launchpad, but haven't heard anything from anybody - the bug doesn't even seem to have been reclassified as "not a bug". https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/298167

It's been like talking in a big empty cave :)
Did I post the bug report correctly on Launchpad? - highly likely.
Or, should I just be more patient?
