HELIOS FOUNDER Ken Starks has said sorry to a school teacher who accused him of trafficking illegal goods to children after she confiscated copies of Linux from a student.
Starks ranted in his bog claiming that the teacher "Karen" was pushing a pro-Microsoft line at the behest of her Volish-backed union.
What Starks didn't realise was that the bog would be read by countless people and "Karen" would become the target of hate for hordes of Linux fanboys.
Starks has said sorry for saying she'd taken a pro-Microsoft line saying he was shocked by the level of responses he'd received to the blog.
Starks had spoken to Karen after she contacted him. She said that when she had heard that an adult had given the student some Linux disks to hand out she thought something dark was up. "Coupled with the fact that she truly was ignorant of honest-to-goodness Free Software, and you have some fairly impressive conclusion-jumping," Starks said.
So why did he say sorry? The story was all true. Karen had told him that students needed to learn Windows, not Linux. She did think that no software was free and that spreading that misconception was harmful.
It seems that Stark feels guilty that he threw another human being to the wolves. Anyway he is using the situation to show Karen how wonderful Linux is. At one point he was going to pop around and install it on her computer.

Ken shouldn't feel so bad. It's not like he published her last name.

"Ranted in his bog" - I had pictures in my head of an irate Mr. Starks going crazy in his loo, crapper, dunny [for Peter64], w.c., lavy, bathroom, restroom, privy or outhouse, but no he just simply wrote about in his blog.
