Best laptop brand for running Linux?

I'm looking for a laptop to run Debian on specifically, but I'd like good Linux compatibility in general. I hear Acer, and IBM are good. Any model/brand recommendations? I'm looking to spend under $1000.

Stinkpads are king, but there aren't many coming in at less than $1k. Fujitsu and asus are popular among people I've asked, but I've never used either. I would have recommended toshiba in the past, but my current opinion of them is that they are a bunch of motherfucking liars, cheats, and greed heads.

I'm in the market for a laptop as well. I'm considering a linux pre-install or no OS laptop to avoid the M$ tax and to support companies selling linux products. I'll probably go with one of these:

I have not had a problem running LInux on any laptop I have ever used: Gateway, Dell, Powerbooks; aside from some non-supported hardware like modems. The only other issue I am aware of is power managment. That can be very buggy and cause lockups.
With ndiswrapper most x86 wifi cards should be supported now.

I've been looking at the laptops on LinuxCertified too. I tweaked this one around alittle to fit my needs better. All this comes to just over $1,100. I also like the idea of buying a computer with no OS at all.

I run Xandros (which is based on Debian) on a Dell Inspiron 1150 just fine. I still have to get the wi-fi working properly on it, but everything else works great.

Dells usually work fine. They make nice boat anchors and door stops as well!

I've been able to run Linux on pretty much all newer Centrino based laptops, havn't had a problem.

I had minimal problems on my old dell 8600, heh ... but my new 12" Powerbook? heh ... ask the guys on the tech show =p
Anyways, i've heard that thinkpads are good for linux stuff, check out linux-laptop.net
