I am forced to take a sebatical from Firefox. It is crashing way too much. The reasons it crashes do not appear to be consistent. It also doesn't give any errors that I can see. So I must take a break from it. I am using opera now.

Epiphany and Konqueror are better than Opera in my opinion. And, have you have the issue where the stupid grey java box appears over flash video? It's well annoying, I sometimes have to refresh the window like 4 times before it will play.

Have you tried to remove the .mozilla folder in your home directory? You will have to backup bookmarks and such. The folder will rebuild and hopefully fix things. Or you have a addon that does not work well with the version of FF you are using.

I will try to delete that folder. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but I believe that left the mozilla folder because I still had all my links.

I have also tried disabling all the add-ons and that does not solve the problem.

Sometimes certain add-ons can have adverse effects on FF. Kind of reminds me back in the day with the old Mac OS (pre OS X). You used to be able to extend the features of the OS using Extensions. And yes, sometimes the third party extensions would tend to cause problems with the overall system. Not much different with Firefox's add-ons, though I still do prefer Firefox to anything else out there.

Try loading firefox in the "safe mode" and see what happens. back up your profile and then create a new profile. once all your setting are in place delete the old profile not the whole mozilla folder. reconfiguring the package is another option.

I deleted the .mozilla directory and I have not had a crash since. It was crashing at least once every 5-10 minutes so I think I am in the clear now!

Firefox 3 has been rock solid for me, and that's in Slackware, Fedora, and Windows XP (work). I get an occasional Flash playback bug that just makes me reload Firefox, but that has only happened a couple times. And I blame that on Flash not Firefox. So if you are having issues, google it and you'll probably find a solution somewhere for your platform.

Deleting that directory has worked for me. I no longer have any issues. I have not added my favorite plugins back in, though. Until this issue Firefox has always been rock solid for me. Thanks for everyone's help in this. I really appreciate it...
