MythTV month - thankyou!

Post by subgeniusd » Wed Feb 18, 2009 9:35 am

Hey guys - I just wanted to thank Pat for MythTV Month.

Not being a huge TV watcher I've been cruising with an old, conventional "media center" setup. Recently got a Hauppauge HVR TV card but have only used with XP MCE 2005 (not surprisingly a rather mediocre application).

The Myth setup just seemed too complicated and tedious for the payoff - watching a few HD shows like Lost that I can view at ABC.com or grab off torrents. With the ATSC transition it's time to get serious with this upgrade.

This ongoing blast of Myth info with all the practical, working details covered by Pat and guests is very helpful. For instance I had noticed how the local OTA capture was practically identical to the new "Super-HD" player at ABC. Didn't know that's because broadcasters transmit uncompressed signals.

Btw Linux Format 111 - http://tinyurl.com/6pa9mj - had an extensive Mythbuntu article by Graham Morrison. He would make an interesting guest.

Thanks again - looking forward to the upcoming episodes :D .
What's your voltage, Coppertop?

yeah Pat loved the "Month of Myth" so far, Great stuff,
all but that Shit music bloody Dann keeps playing that is

Dont worry about 330 he wouldn't know a good program if it hit him in the head.
The word on the street is he's got adobe Photoshop and Corel Draw installed on his Windows 7 MCE Edition box that he never shuts up about now

Thanks to all the great guests that contributed over the last month. Next week we're doing full reviews of the PopcornHour A110 and NeurosLink. Should be fun.

Pat,

I would love to hear if the Neuros Link can handle 1080i MPEG2 and h.264 (and any other codecs).

I was thinking about the Link over an AppleTV, but currently from what I can read on the Neuros forums the ATI drivers needed for the Link aren't very mature yet and people seem to be having some issues with it.

So I am not sure if whoever is testing the Link has 1080i testing capabilities, but if that person does I would love to hear how the Link handles it.

If it does the Link looks like a nice option for a MythTV frontend, or backend if you put a drive inside it.

So would I. Linc has it. I asked him to download and test those h264 sample recordings made by the PVR-1212. If I had to guess the answer would be no it can't handle them. It can probably handle 1080i MPEG2 files since they're not as CPU intensive as h264 files. We'll find out very soon. Stay tuned.
