I might be tempted to get a cheap N810 and sell my N800.

So Pat, did you end up getting an N810?

Even though I had decided I wouldn't get one, I'm having second thoughts now due to the recent price drop to a little over $200.

Looks like they're doomed. The problem is that Netbooks came along. For about the same money you can pick up a netbook that is much more functional overall. As more netbooks flood the market you will be able to pick up models cheaply that didn't sell all the production run. Look an Acer Aspire One for $259.

Look at all the netbooks on sale at Buy.com:

I've made a nice observation looking through the Buy.com offerings, they are all Windows XP versions. I smell a rat in the Windows versions dominating the market. I think they count all the machines as sold that work their way to discounters. I have a fear that the greed of Microsoft will ruin what is a great product by weaseling in where they didn't belong. At least outside the U.S. Linux netbooks are flourishing.

But you still can't put a netbook in your pocket.

I don't even put my cell phone in my pocket.

Personally, I'd have much more use for a netbook than a Nokia tablet, not that I couldn't make good use of it. Looks like there is still good interest in them as the prices on E-bay are relatively good.

Pat or anyone with a Nokia N8*,

Can you do ssh forwarding? X windows forwarding through ssh? I am in need of a small SSD device I could take with me in my motorcycle tank bag for all day rides. I usually hit a Starbucks and have free AT&T wifi access because of my AT&T DSL.

No, for my purposes the N800 is fine. I'm saving my money for an Android phone towards the end of the year. I'm going to check out MER now that Maemo5 will not be backported to the N* series. Basically MER is an open Maemo-like community distro for the N8* series. The idea is to the keep the software up to date and fresh after Nokia drops support for them.
